Contains the following types of materials: official papers, personal papers, news clippings, capsule. Contains information pertaining to the following wars and time periods: 1865-1897, Phillipine Insurection, World War I (WWI) -- Western Front, 1920's, 1930's, World War II (WWII) -- U.S., 1946-1950, 1950's. Contains information pertaining to the following military unit and organization: Coast Artillery Corps. General description of the collection: The William C. Foote papers include officer's papers most of which are miscellaneous official and personal papers. Contains correspondence and drafts for his history "The Artillery Journal and its influence on the development of the Coast Artillery Corps of the United States Army" (1887-1953); course material from his student days at the Coast Artillery School (1928-1929) with exercises for suppressing civil disturbances. Papers also contain actual war games in the field in the 1st Army (1938), 11th Coast Artillery Regiment, VI Corps Area (1940) and of the Second Army for the Tennessee Maneuvers (1941). Base and commercial newspapers, other miscellaneous official papers and a report on gold mining pertain to his command of Base M., San Fernando, the Philippines (1945-1946). Capsule histories of the base's World War II service plus clippings and brochures concerning the celebration of the sesqicentennial anniversary of the siege of Yorktown (1931) are within this collection.

William C. Foote was in the United States military and had attained the rank of captain through colonel in the Coast Artillery Corps. He was a lieutenant-colonel in the 11th Coast Artillery Regiment and was a G-3 in the VI Corps Area.
